Brazil rejects U.S. State Department's human rights report - International Herald Tribune

iht.com: "The U.S. government's report, released Tuesday — just days before President George W. Bush's tour of five Latin American nations including Brazil — criticized human rights abuses in South America's largest nation including poor prison conditions, beatings and torture of inmates, child labor in the informal economy, and discrimination against Indians and minorities. The report also said most human rights violators are never held accountable.

In a statement posed on its Web site, the Foreign Ministry said, 'The Brazilian government does not recognize the legitimacy of reports elaborated unilaterally by countries that use domestic criteria that many times are politically motivated.'"
